To be completely honest with you, I never knew much about perfume. And as a female, that is a little embarrassing. Don’t get me wrong, my perfume selection always consisted of the regular Chanel – Chance, Chanel – Coco Mademoiselle, Dolce and Gabbana – Light Blue, DKNY – Be Delicious (The Apple Perfume) and some fragrances from Salvatore Ferragamo.
It wasn’t until I walked into a perfume store that held a collection of perfume from around the world, that I discover the new love for scent. Each bottle from a different perfumer had its own touch. It was as if the artist and the scientist combined, to tell a different story in hopes of leaving the scent on someone else’s body for simple enjoyment of their creation.
As I smelled the different story in each bottle, I could also smell the passion that went into creating the perfect scent and what each perfumer was trying to manifest.
Wikipedia describes the term perfumer as a —
“The perfumer is effectively an artist who is trained in depth on the concepts of fragrance aesthetics and who is capable of conveying abstract concepts and moods with fragrance compositions”
Of course I had purchase something. It was a hard choice, but I fell in love with the Amouage collection. Christopher Chong, is the creative director behind this brand. Amouage is known as a luxurious perfume brand that combines that Arabian lavishness with Western tradition. So far my favorite scent from this line has been the Reflection. The scent is described as morning freshness resembling morning due in spring time. I felt the scent change as the time progressed, I loved it more and more. I could not stop smelling it. It is not too strong, and it is a perfect everyday scent. I also love the scent Dia. oh my gosh, this smells amazing. Amouage describes this scent as vibrant and sophisticated. To me it smells refreshing and flowery. I cannot wait to wear it out.
Another very interesting and unique perfume line is from a brand called, Imaginary Authors. Each perfume bottle tells a unique story. A city of fire, for example has an actual matched infused into the perfume, and it smells like it too. The perfumer describes the scent as
A brilliantly dark graphic novel, A City On Fire, is the story of two match-makers. Rupert literally fabricates matches in a factory on the waterfront while Frances writes a dating column for the city’s newspaper. Both are recluses who haunt the night’s shadows observing clandestine activities from afar but never partaking. That changes one fortuitous evening when they are both witness to the same high-profile murder and are forced to come together as an unlikely vigilante pair in order to save their own names. Imaginary Authors developed this fragrance
Imaginary Authors describes their story as —
“Imaginary Authors is born from the concept of scent as art and art as provocation. Like a good book, these scents are meant to inspire you. In these bottles are layered narratives that are sure to generate stirring conversation, fragrances that might be capable of changing the course of your own personal story. The hope is that they not only invigorate and intoxicate, but also take you to new places.”
